It Stands for Indian Medical Association-Global Fund for control of AIDS TB & Malaria-Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme-Public Private Mix-Rolling Continuation Channel Project.
Global Fund Board has created a mechanism for better performance of GFATM Projects through Rolling Continuation Channel. The IMA Project has been approved for RCC from 2009-2015 in 16 States. The IMA had signed the Memorandum with CTD to implement the activities of RCC. It started from1st April 2009 with an objective to improve access to the diagnostic & treatment services of DOTS & thereby improve the quality of care for TB patients.
WHO is providing Technical Support to IMA for well functioning of the project.
Scope of the Project is to reach 1.5 lac IMA members in India.
There will be 1 National Workshop held once in a year; 1 State Workshop once in a year; 1 CME in each Local Branch every year; & 1 DTP in each District of State every year. The First State Workshop of Chhattisgarh is going to be held in September, date & venue are in process of finalisation.
NWG of IMA will monitor Project in States & Units, also Project evaluation will be carried out by CTD/GFATM Board periodically.
The National Chapter of IMA a Professional body of Doctors has issued a letter of request to all States & Local Branches urging them to participate in RNTCP. The IMA has appointed Technical Consultants who have been trained at the National Level by RNTCP to coordinate the TB related activities of IMA in State.
Our Data say that in India about 4 lac Death occur from TB every year.
- every day in India more than 5000 develop TB disease.
- every day more than 1000 people die of TB (2 deaths every 3 minute).
Although RNTCP in India has made sure progress over the last 2-3 years & given a boost to Global DOTS expansion. The Private Practitioners involved in PPM in India’s RNTCP are the first point of contact for more than 2/3 of TB patients. PPM has come a long way with a support of over 2500 NGO’s, 25000 PP’s, 260 Medical Colleges, & 150 Corporate Houses which are providing DOTS services.
Govt. of India has developed schemes for involvment of NGO’s & Private Sectors in TB control, like starting DMC lab, DOT Centre & even Culture & Drug Sensitivity Testing Centre etc. which can be availed by signing MOU for participation in RNTCP. Motivation, Education Training with periodic Monitoring & Evaluation of active participants has also been planned under this project.
The President of Local Branch, Ranchi Chapter of IMA Dr S N Chaudhary has set an example by becoming involved in RNTCP. He has 31 patients taking DOTS at his Nursing Home having DMC & DOT Centre, of them 20 were detected & diagnosed at his Health Centre itself.
IMA Ranchi has set up RNTCP Cell to support RNTCP & present President has also initiated DMC & DOT Centre at his Clinic.
So Dear IMA Doctors Our decision, work & commitment can make IMA feel proud between National & International Committee Meetings. CTD & GFATM will realise that they have chosen right Organisation for achievement of RNTCP Objectives & Goals, & will accept that surely IMA can make a lot of difference.
At last I would like to quote few lines said by National Coordinator TB, Dr Gutta Suresh.
- Each of us can do, but a little
- But If each of us, does that little
- Then all that is to be done, will be done
Thank You.
